I just hit the publish button on my new article that went live on the blog and within 10 minutes of wrapping up, I opened my laptop again and came straight to my newsletter editor. This is my first newsletter and I am finally doing it right after years of failing. Failing in the sense, that I never understood the true meaning of it which is why I could never build my mailing list until now. See, when I started my blog, people actually used to sign up for blog updates via email. But that era has gone especially in the case of beauty and lifestyle niche. With Instagram and YouTube booming, the platform preference of the readers shifted let alone signing up for the updates. It was like, why would anyone want to receive an email for "hey! I tried this new sunscreen. Read my review"!! No, right? First of all, visual vertical 30 seconds videos started to take over. And then, even if they (the audience) were interested in reading blogs, they would rather prefer to get the updates via the creator's IG. Meanwhile... I became a person who doesn't like social media especially being on Instagram. I started feeling like I don't have my audience. The real audience who is connected with me for my writing--for my blog. And that's when I realized the true logic, the true essence behind a newsletter. This felt like a perfect opportunity. I can share my thoughts via written words that don't necessarily belong to the blog with my audience who is connected with me for my words. And.. I don't know if I should put this here but as you all know Google kind of recently destroyed for blogs and business and we lost 95% of our traffic and revenue. This, 2025, has been the toughest year (financially) I have seen in my career. And when I read people saying this is why you need a maling list, I was all like, how do I even do that? But that's not the case now because I am finally on the right path of sharing my real opinions (behind the blog kind of thoughts) with my audience via this newsletter. I am not sure how exactly, I and we all publishers are ever going to recover from what Google did but this newsletter feels like a right start. A right step. And I hope, one day my newsletter will cross the Kit's 10K subs free-tier plan. 😹 Well, this was it for my first newsletter. In coming days, let me rephrase, in coming newsletters, this is all I will be sharing along with my beauty and blog updates so if that's something you want to read, do subscribe :) Okay how do I end this? Anyways, that was it for the first one. Until next time ✍🏻 Niharika (oh! if you feel like replying back, you can simply leave a comment on my blog sharing your thoughts (literally, on any post). I would really, really love that 🎀). |
